Every year, members of Empower’s day program decorate a tree as part of the the Festival of Trees held at the Power Authority.  They do a wonderful job, ensuring that purple reigns among the many trees that are decorated by area nonprofit organizations. Community members looking to celebrate the season visit and get educated on all of the wonderful work done by these organizations. Being part of the Festival of Trees is just one of the many ways our day hab participants contribute to our community. They do a fantastic job!

Rights Education Sessions Held at Meadowbrook

JTDP Case Manager Angela Gantt leads a discussion on Individuals with Disabilities Education Act that entitles all children with disabilities a free and non-segregated public education

JTDP Case Manager Angela Gantt leads a discussion on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that entitles all children with disabilities a free and non-segregated public education

Each month, rights education sessions are held at our Meadowbrook Plaza. The sessions are open to anyone, and attendees include Day-Hab-Without-Walls participants and Community Prevocational Program workers.

JTDP Case Manager Angela Gantt facilitates the sessions, choosing a topic such as IDEA to cover. Participants are given a chance to express their thoughts and individual experiences. During the discussion on IDEA, more than one person voiced how it felt to be treated differently because of their disability. The group strategized on ways to ensure future students didn’t have to face their negative experience.

Delivering Meals to City of Niagara Falls Residents

Each week, Day-Hab-Without-Walls participants board Empower’s bus and travel to Sal Maglie Stadium where meals are picked up for delivery to older adults who live throughout the City of Niagara Falls. It’s tough work that requires attention to detail to ensure the right meal (according to their dietary and medical needs) goes to the right person. Participants make their way over uneven terrain, especially in Winter when roads are icy, and greet each recipient with a smile as they hand over meals. Delivery meals is one more way that our day hab participants are contributing to our community.
