Maintenance Worker

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Maintenance Worker maintains all Community Housing facilities and other agency facilities as needed at the highest possible standards of safety, efficiency and structural integrity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Completes the “Maintenance” section of the Monthly Environmental Checklist.

  • Conducts monthly inspections of the Community Housing sites to ensure safe operations and infection control standards. This includes checking of fire extinguishers and making sure that they are recharted annually.

  • Addresses any and all items that are identified as “Unacceptable” on the Monthly Environmental Checklist.

  • Completes all work requested by management at the site: IRA Manager and Program Coordinator.

  • Completes seasonal tasks necessary for the proper up-keep and safety of the grounds of the residence, i.e., shovel, mow and water lawns, prepare/store yard furniture, propane grills, etc.

  • Ensures the completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the house van.

  • During performance of duties inspects the many components of the house and lot to ensure all conditions are safe and operations are maintained.

  • Purchases supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks following agency procedure.

  • Completes other maintenance or janitorial tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Program Coordinator, IRA Manager, or Director of Community Housing.

  • Serves as a representative of the Agency, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Empower community and with the public.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
 

  • High School diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of paid maintenance or janitorial work experience. Qualifications may be waived in lieu of a combination of other educational and occupational experiences after a thorough review by the Executive Director.

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License is required.


FUNCTIONAL ABILITIES
 

  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect premises, perform needed repairs and maintenance and assure the safety of staff and people we support in or around facilities.

  • Mobility sufficient to perform all assigned duties including those that require use of a ladder.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without restriction in order to safely perform custodial and maintenance duties in the agency sites, including moving furniture and supplies, snow and trash removal, etc.

  • Ability to work inside as well as outside in all weather conditions to maintain safety standards for the agency sites.

  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the position.
