Day Habilitation

Empower Day Habilitation provides opportunities for volunteer work, shopping, parks and restaurant outings, and other integrated activities in the community. Day Habilitation is for individuals with a developmental or intellectual disability who are eligible/enrolled in Medicaid.

Empower offers Day Habilitation (usually called “Day Hab”) in three lanes of pace, according to peoples’ needs, interests and goals:

Joseph O. Mineo Day Center (slower-paced lane): a site-based Day Hab program located at 7425 Buffalo Avenue in the LaSalle area of Niagara Falls. This is a great choice for people who need more behavioral or medical supports. Staff are certified to administer medications and G-Tube feeds.

Porter Avenue Integrated Day Center (middle lane): an integrated site-based program that makes occasional community outings located at 8962 Porter Road in the Town of Niagara.  Participants include both older adults who live in the community and people with an intellectual or developmental disability.

Day Habilitation Without Walls (speedy lane): a community-integrated program with a “home base” at 3571 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Wheatfield. Participants spend time in the community volunteering and enjoying activities.

Please NOTE: To protect day habilitation participants from the health risk posed by COVID-19, this program was temporarily suspended per a mandate from New York State’s Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. For information on our reopening plans for 2020, please visit https://empower-wny.org/news-events/covid-19-response/.
