New Employee Trainings to Include A Person We Serve

Who better to instruct new staff on how to care for people with disabilities than someone who has a disability and who already receives our services?  Starting soon, new employee trainings will include a component in which a person who has a disability assists with the teaching.  It is another way that Empower is involving the people we serve in the care it delivers and gives them opportunities to gain experience and lead fulfilling lives.

Residents Attend Wrestling Event

Kevin Hance, Sean Evans, and Marshawn Walton went to see WWE Road to WrestleMania Live on March 25th in Downtown Buffalo. They had a great time cheering for their favorite wrestlers, especially John Cena!

Overnight Respite Again Offered

Once again, Overnight Respite is in full swing as we held the program at the Courtyard by Marriot and at the Four Points Sheridan hotels. The people we serve and their families had a great time as they went out to eat, walked around town and made time to complete arts and crafts projects.

Autism Fundraiser Held

On April 14th, Empower held a fundraiser at the Forestville Church of God to raise funds for our Sib Shop and Spectrum Theatre programs. There were many food trucks and venders for people to choose from. Special thanks to Robin Stevens, Coordinator of Community Supports for organizing this event.

Empower Athletes Take Fourth Place at Special Olympics

Kudos to Marshawn Walton and Crystal Williams for taking fourth place at Special Olympics! They both worked so hard to make the team. They were very competitive! It was great to see so many people from Empower there to cheer them on.
